A  Night Start
Friday 15th October 2010

Are you ready to push yourself to the limit at MoonTrekker 2010? Hong-Kong’s most exciting endurance competition ever? Following on from the success of MoonTrekker 2009 (we hit capacity early), we bring this unique endurance race to challenge the minds, hearts and legs of Hong-Kong’s most intrepid adventurers. The *40km and the shorter *25km endurance hikes begin at 9:20pm/11:20pm in Mui Wo, on Lantau Island, and will take participants though the island’s stunning scenic country trails. The last section of the route passes through the sleepy Po Lam Zen Monastery in Tai Tong Tsai and leads hikers up Hong Kong’s second highest peak—delivering racers to Hong
Kong
’s famous and best dawn panoramas. Will you make it before sunrise? The course record was set high in 2009—just 4hours 31minutes for the 40km route.

Lantau Peak
This mountain forms part of the backbone of Lantau Island, and for years have been the destination for lovers of the great outdoors, eager and determined to experience Hong Kong’s finest dawn view first-hand. The official time to catch the sunrise on Saturday 16th October will be at 6.20am. Racers will have approximately 7 hours (for the Moonlit 25) or 9 hours (for the Sunrise 40) to reach the summit of Lantau Peak to enjoy the spectacular view.

Fund Raising
A great reason to get fit, a fantastic experience on the horizon—and helping a great cause! After registering for MoonTrekker, you are expected to harass/plead/entice or show-off to your friends and loved-ones to raise a minimum of HK$500 per participant which goes to MoonTrekker's nominated charity. We are delighted once again to be supporting Room to Read.

In our first year, participants raised over US$85,000 which has already been used to fund a new primary school in Sri Lanka as well as other projects. See report

Whether you want to kick-start a healthier lifestyle (good preparation and training are essential), help raise money for a great cause, or simply want the chance to catch dawn from 1000 metres, MoonTrekker is the best outdoor experience Hong Kong has to offer. For regular competitors on Hong Kong's endurance/hike calendar, MoonTrekker offers a refreshing new competition to get your feet into.

Schedule
Lasting through the night, MoonTrekker spares you from the soaring daytime heat typical for that time of the year. Participants have the choice of either the Moonlit 25 or the Sunrise 40 route through the night, perfect for veteran and novice hikers alike.

Year Two

For all of those who joined us for our first event in 2009 we look forward to seeing you again and wish you luck with improving your time or even the race distance you enter. Last year's results are listed in the 2009 page. To new participants, we welcome you and looking forward to meeting you in October!
